After making changes to your PhatBox library, it must be saved to the DMS Cartridge. A warning will be displayed if you attempt to quit PhatMac, or eject the cartridge, without saving the library.
The Save button on the main window (and the Save option in the File menu) will be enabled if the library has been changed and needs to be saved. In the event that you feel the library needs to be saved while the button is disabled, you may select Save All from the File Menu - which also checks all music files and all speech files.
There are five steps involved with saving the PhatBox library, all are documented in the Save Progress Window:

Purge Database - This indicates the progress while PhatMac purges tracks from the PhatBox Library that are no longer contained in any playlists. This is the same as selecting Purge Library from the DMS menu. If desired, this step may be skipped by de-selecting the Purge Library option in General Preferences.
Prepare - PhatMac must sort the artists, albums and genres according to the rules which have been supplied in the Sorting Preferences. The music files are also examined so that total disk-usage can be estimated, to verify that there is enough space on the DMS Cartridge.
Save Database - This indicates that the database files are being written to the DMS Cartridge. This phase cannot be interrupted, as it will corrupt the cartridge.
Generate Speech - This indicates that the speech files are being generated for the SSA interface. If desired, this step may be skipped by de-selecting the Generate Speech option in Speech Preferences.
Transfer Files - This indicates progress while the music files are being transferred (and converted, if necessary). The file count is the total number of files in the entire library, not just the files which are being transferred. Transferring files can be slow, especially when they need to be converted.
The disk-usage bar-graph and text are constantly updated during the save process. The display in the main window will not update!
The Abort button is active for the last two stages (speech and transfer). If clicked, the save process will be aborted once the current file is complete. It is safe to use the DMS in the PhatBox without all of the speech and music files, however it will obviously not play correctly. Complete the rest of the speech and music files at a later time by selected Save All from the File menu.
