If your PhatNoise cradle is "USB 2.0", then you should not need to
install any additional drivers. Plug the cradle into your Mac, and insert
the DMS Cartridge into the cradle. Wait a few seconds to see if the drives
show up on your desktop:
If the drive does not spin up (you'll see the lamp on the cradle blink), and
the drives do not show up on the desktop, then you will probably need to
install the driver. The drivers are ONLY for the older USB 1.1 cradles, and
only work on PPC Macs (not Intel models).
Download and install this driver.
ISD (Cypress) USB Cradle Driver 1.2 (for OS X 10.1)
ISD (Cypress) USB Cradle Driver 1.4.1
These are supposed to be Mass Storage compliant, but aren't. I have been unable to get them to work with the Mac.
The first time you insert the cartridge, the Disk wizard may come up, asking you to initialize the disk. If it does, Cancel this. I repeat - DO NOT initialize the drives!!! When you remove and re-insert the cartridge, PHTSYS will show up, and it may ask to initialize the disk again, cancel, eject, and PHTDTA will show up after it is re-inserted.
Download the disk image, then drag the application onto your computer.
The Preferences box will appear the first time the application is run (both for a clean install, and maybe if you upgrade from a previous version). Have a quick look through the settings to verify that they are suitable for your system. Speech generation defaults to off, and must be explicitly enabled for units which use the SSA interface.
PhatMac is a work in progress. While the application may crash, it shouldn't leave the DMS in an unstable state; however if this does happen, the Windows tool should be able to fix it. I have been using this exclusively for several years, and have not had any bad crashes or disasters. Please let me know all problems you have .. I'm counting on the users to help me make this as great as possible.
